Communications Technology
Communications technology reduces the power that national governments have over what their citizens hear, read, or watch. Governments are regularly known to control the information that their citizens get through a process of censorship.
The Internet and other forms of media, most notably social media, are assisting the process of globalization. These forms of communication media allow people to side-step their governments and report information as they observe it.
The communications revolution began with the lowered cost of standard “land line” telephone systems. That rapidly spread to the development of mobile telephone technology, computers, and the advanced electronic communication devices that we have today.
At one time, communication was a luxury enjoyed occasionally by a few. Communication is now easy, affordable, and accessible to all levels of society. Nation-states are now challenged to control information and the reporting of events like the once were able to.
