Factors important to ensure the effectiveness
of prevention programs for GLB adolescents
include inclusive instruction, adequate
support services, acknowledgment of
diversity, and a nondiscriminatory school
climate.31,33–38 Inclusive instruction is gay sensitive
and addresses self-management and social
skills relevant to GLB youths.33 For example,
HIV prevention programs might be
gender-neutral or address the full range of sexual
partner relationships that exist. Various authors
have prescriptively recommended strategies
to reduce gay-related stressors and
high-risk behaviors in schools29,39–52; however,
few such interventions have been evaluated
