Between 10 and 12 interviews were conducted at each site with a range of school personnel and community members (see Table 1). Each interview followed a predetermined interview schedule allowing in-depth probing as appropriate. Interviews lasted between 45 minutes and 2 hours. All interviews were conducted individually with the exception of one small group interview with three parents at Rosland.2 Interviews with parents and community leaders were useful for triangulation of data obtained from school sources and helped to increase validity. All interviews began with an explanation of voluntary participation, an overview of the general purpose of the study, and an introduction of the researcher.
