Limits for aflatoxin in food products in Kenya are 10 μg/kg total aflatoxin and 5 μg/kg aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in peanuts and other food grains (Kenya Bureau of Standards, 2007). However, the high cost of testing discourages the majority of the farmers, processors and traders from testing their products. This setback, in the absence of adequate knowledge, is further compounded by the reluctance of consumers to pay the extra cost of a tested product, when there is a readily available alternative.
