Replicating an abundance of literature, our results indicate that not all children are similarly affected by exposure to inter parental disputes(in this instance, experimental condition vs. control condition); however, in agreement with the emotional security theory, the effects are also determined by (a) the child’s former family background of
marital conflict and (b) child characteristics such as stress reactivity (Cummings & Davies, 2002).
