Studies from Australian sites show similar results. In 68 sediment samples from 17 locations (4 replicates/location) in Sydney Harbour, measured porewater ammonia concentrations were 3.7 ± 2.4 mg total NH3/L, with a maximum value of 13.6 mg total
NH3/L (Chariton et al., submitted for publication). Despite these observations, in most situations the sediment ecological health appeared to be unaffected by the elevated porewater ammonia concentrations(Chariton et al., submitted for publication).
