3. SRTM and SLA-02 data
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) is an international project spearheaded by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) and NASA (van Zyl, 2001). The objective of the mission was to obtain the most complete high-resolution digital topographic database of the Earth. SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour during an 11-day mission in February of 2000. SRTM data provides the most complete global topographic map ever made, from 60j north to 56j south latitude.
