BARRIERS TO TREATMENT
In the National Survey Drug Use and Health, women re-
on
ported the following reasons for
not receiving treatment for
their substance abuse: (1) they're not ready to stop using sub-
stances (36.1 percent); (2) they don't have insurance and report
that cost is a barrier seeking health care (34.4 percent); (3)
to
they believe that the social stigma of substance abuse is a bar-
rier to seeking treatment (28.9 percent); (4) they feel they can't
handle the treatment, the substance abuse problem (15.5
nor
percent): (5) they don't know where to go for recovery care
nor substance abuse resources (13.2 percent); (6) they feel they
dont have the time to start treatment (4.7 percent); (7) they
don't believe that the treatment would help their addiction (2.7
percent; SAMHSA, 2010).
