The Chemicals Business of the Group has been on a rapid growth path. As part of this, a Chlor Alkali unit and an Epoxy unit have got commissioned at Vilayat, Gujarat, during the last two years. From the project till the initial ramp-up stage, both the units have had a common organisation, led by the unit head of the Chlor Alkali unit, Mr. Ashu Pareek.
After its commissioning in November 2013, the Epoxy plant has been ramping up its capacity utilisation. At the same time Chlor Alkali unit has also diversified its portfolio by adding, Chlorine value chain based, value added products. Given the very different products, manufacturing processes, raw material and customers of Chlor Alkali and the Epoxy businesses, the two businesses require greater focus individually.
In order to provide focused leadership to the Epoxy Unit, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Prem Tiwari, currently Sr. Vice President - Commercial, Chemicals Business Thailand, as Jt. President and Unit Head - Epoxy Unit, Vilayat. This movement is in line with the talent development and career progression processes which have been institutionalized in the Group.
The movement of Mr. Prem Tiwari will be effective November 10, 2014 and he will be based at Vilayat. He will report to Mr. Pradip Dubey, Sr. President – Epoxy Division. The organization structure under Mr. Tiwari will be announced by the Chemicals Business subsequently. Mr. Ashu Pareek will continue to head the Chlor Alkali unit.
After completing his MBA in Finance from Delhi University in 1985, Mr. Tiwari joined the Group in 1986 at Thai Carbon Black, Thailand. He left the Group in 1988 and re-joined in 1990. Over the course of his twenty six years with the Group Mr. Tiwari has held many key responsibilities. Among these, he was responsible for the successful negotiation of the JV agreement with Fanchenggang Grasun Company Limited, incorporation of the Aditya Birla Grasun Company Ltd., management control transfer of the plant from Fanchenggang Grasun and commissioning of additional capacity at the Phosphoric Acid plant in China. In his last role as Head of Commercial – Chemical Business, Thailand, he played a key role in optimisation of auxiliary chemicals costs and ensuring long-term sustainability of business, both from cost as well as environment aspects.
I request you all to join me in wishing Mr. Tiwari the best in his new assignment.
