Interestingly, despite their greater negative perception of their newborns, prenatally depressed mothers still generally held positive views of their infants and, like their non-depressed counterparts, saw their infants in a more positive light than they viewed average newborns. Consistent with previous literature on varied populations (e.g., Broussard and Hartner, 1970 and Broussard and Cassidy, 2010), both groups of mothers in the present study perceived less difficulty with their own child compared to others. Despite the depressed mother's overall negative perception bias, she still sees her child as special compared to other children.
