In our survey, 11% of MSM reported sexual abuse before the age of 13 and 9% after age 13. In the former case, most sexual offenders were acquainted with their victims because they were relatives. By contrast, among those experiencing sexual abuse after age 13, most of the perpetrators were neighbors or friends close to the family. Among the abused, only one reported the abuse to the authorities. The main reasons given were “feelings of embarrassment” and “being threatened by the abuser.”
