ABSTRACT
The objective of this survey-based research is to study the behavior of family health promotion and the factors that have relationship with the behavior of family health promotion in the community situated at Chlongmahanak, Pomprabsutrupai region, Bangkok Metropolitan. The total of 433 families were selected and interviewed with the questionnaires adapted from Health promoting lifestyle profiled II by Walker Sechrist and Pender 7 sides. The data factors that have relationship with the behavior of family health promotion are leading factor, aiding factor, and supportive factor with questionnaires created specifically by the researcher. This study was conducted between January – March 2002 and analyzed by using frequency distribution, percentage, means standard deviation, Pearson coefficient of correlation, and Spearman rank correlation coefficient.
The study found that there are 77% single family structures in which 37.1% of those family members stay alone. In addition, there are 71.3% people observe Buddhism, 26.3% observe Islam. Interestingly, 48.9% of those family members have their own sickness such as high-blood pressure, diabetes, heart trouble, and asthma. There are 55.2% of those families perceived the knowledge about health plan promotion from television as main media. The knowledge that each family could put into practice are 40% of food knowledge and 27.5% of exercise guideline. The overall behavior of family health promotion and their income are in a good level. However, some behavior of health promotion such as exercise, too much salty or very sweet food limitation, new friend association, letting it be, and hobby are in a medium level. The factors that has relationship with the behavior of health promotion is predisposing factors such as the knowledge of health promotion and health status perception are in a good level except the perceived barriers are in a medium level. The enabling factors such as the efficacy and the convenience to health promotion practice are in a good level except the exercise and cooperative activities are in medium level. The reinforcing factor such as the number of information sources about the behavior of health promotion is in a good level. Nonetheless, the family health status is in a medium level. In sum, this found the significant relationship between predisposing factor, enabling factor, reinforcing factor, and the behavior of family health promotion.
