4. ConclusionsAn efficient method for algal oil extraction from wet cells of B.
braunii has been developed by 1,2-dimethoxyethane. Water content
of the wet microalgal biomass significantly affected the
extraction efficiency, and a mathematic model was established to
predict the required amount of 1,2-dimethoxyethane for achieving
a targeted hydrocarbon recovery efficiency based on the water
content in the wet algal biomass. This extraction method provides
a great potential for saving time and energy associated with
improving algal oil recovery from wet algal biomass without
extensive dewatering and drying process.
