• The interest and involvement in ethics by scholars and decision makers may be a function of three different but related factors:
• the alternative tourism and sustainable tourism paradigms (model, standard, pattern)
• The Rio conferences (chapter 30 of Agenda 21)
• “Business and Industry, including transnational corporations, should be encouraged to adopt and report on the implementation of codes of conduct promoting best environmental practice”
• The development of codes of ethics in other commercial sectors during the 1980s and 1990s.
