1. Through observation or discussion with the primary caregiver, determine what activities or items appear to be desired by the student.
2. Present the items listed in the materials section in an effort to stimulate all the senses.
3. If any form of response such as redirection of body position, a smile, verbalizations, or reaching for an object occurs, immediately reinforce with the items or actions determined in
Step 1
4. Continue Steps 1 through 3 and calculate the time spent by the student in attending to the task. Continue until five separate sessions have occurred with attending being perceived for more than 3 minutes.
