first expressed in England and Scotland,architects made a return to classicism not of the Greek or Roman origin,but the interpretations by Andreas Palladio.Colen campbell, a young Scot,produced a book of over 100 engravings of houses in Britain,Vitruvius Britannicus,in which he praised both Palladio and Indigo Jones. His theories were put into practice when he built Houghton Hall and then a villa in kent,Mereworth(1723),which was a reinterpretation of villa Carpa.Lord Burlington built a similar villa on the outskirts of London,Chiswick House ,with the help of William Kent.
