Victim’s kin sets lawyer on Janepob
The family if a female graduate student killed in a high-sppeed crash will have their lawyer proceed with legal action against the Mercedes-Benz driver, as they try to keep a low profile.
Their lastest move was revealed in a brief interview the student’s father gave with the Bangkok POST YESTERDAY.
“We prefer not to intervene in the authorities’ work and judicial process,” said ThivakornHorsaengchai, adding that the family is employing their laeyer to keep up with the case handle lawsuits on their behalf.
The ongoing treatment of MrJanepoh’s psychological condition has become an issue in the investigation after mwdication found in his car was later identified as a stimulant.
Doctors have told police that MrJanepob is being treated for depression. MrThivakorn declined to comment on whether MrJanepob may use mental illness as a defence, while police said they are not worried if MrJanepob,who was driving at 215 257 kph during the accident, chose to use this defence.
The officers have so far charged the 37-year-old suspect and luxury car import company heir with reckless driving causing death and drink-driving. They also plan to file charges of speeding and driving without care of safety, since the car’s speed during the crash was revealed.
Currently, there are two major and two minor charges, said deputy national police chief Pol Gen Pongcharoen said. He expects officers will forward the case to prosecutors for indictment by the end of this month.MrThivakorn supports the police’s work and will let the case take its course, as an “act of respect” to their duty and judicial process, he said.
His daughter Thanthaphat,34,and kritsana Thaworn,32,were trapped in a Ford Fiesta which burst into flames after being hit by MrJanepob’s car in Ayutthaya’sBang Pa-in district on March13.Both were pursuing a master’s degree at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. The incident has gained puclic attention and sparked interest in previous road accidents involving the scions of rich families.
