Islam is the official religion in Brunei. The constitution of Brunei also called Brunei Darussalam does not follow a rigid religious system. People have the liberty to follow a religion of their choice. There are people who follow Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity.
Majority of the people that is around 67 percent of the people follow Islam. Almost 13 percent of the total population follow Buddhism. Almost 10 percent of the people follow Hinduism, whereas another 10 percent follow Christianity. Although the constitution does not restrict people from following a particular religion, conversion is strictly banned.
Islam started spreading in Brunei in the 14th century, when the ruler of that time, Awang Alak Betatar adopted this religion.
