These results have implications for future work self salience (Strauss et al., 2012) and career construction theory (Savickas, 2013).
For future work self salience, the idea that identity based motivation corresponds to the engagement of congruent behaviors that
potentially lead to actualizing a desired future (Oyserman & Destin, 2010) is confirmed in the present study. However, it appears
that there are additive and indirect effects that either adds predictive or explanatory power in terms of what makes the engagement
in such goal attainment behaviors more likely. Future research in this area should investigate other theoretically relevant self regulatory
mechanisms that explain how future work self leads to desired outcomes.
