According to Laver (1994), Abramson (2000), and Ladefoged (2001), during the pronunciation of the two consonants, first [Z], then [s], a speaker can feel a vibration at the larynx or Adam's apple.
This is caused by a stream of air that is being pressed through a narrow aperture, called glottis, between the vocal cords.
