Conclusion
Present study displayed
role of ginger extracts by decreasing the mRNAexpression and protein levels of Th2 type cytokines (IL-4 and
IL-5), which possibly led to the reduction of serum IgE levels.
Data also showed that ethanol and aqueous extracts of ginger
significantly reduced allergic airway inflammation by
decreasing the infiltration of inflammatory cells in airways,
pathological lesions, goblet cell hyperplasia, mucus hypersecretion,
edema with vascular congestion, and total and
differential number of eosinophils and neutrophils in blood
and BALF, which could possibly be attributed to the
suppression of Th2-mediated cytokines.
The exact mechanism by which the down-regulation of
IL-4 and IL-5 genes occurred, which further diminished the
whole inflammatory cascade, is not clear and further studies
are needed to understand it.
