3.3. Effects of T3 on FW fish
As expected, exogenous T3 increased (P < 0.05) the plasma T3 of
FW fish (Fig. 3), but produced a decline (P < 0.01) in the plasma T4
(Fig. 3). T3 treatment decreased the plasma glucose (P < 0.05) and
the plasma urea (P < 0.05) of FW fish (Fig. 4A and B). Injection of
T3 increased (P < 0.05) Na+, K+-ATPase activity in the gill of FW fish
(Fig. 5), whereas the enzyme activity decreased (P < 0.05) in the
kidney (Fig. 5). The plasma [Na] and [K] contents remained unaffected
in the FW fish after T3 treatment (Table 1).
