Microalgae have been recognized as a promising alternative
source for biodiesel-convertible lipids. They are a group of
diverse photosynthetic organisms that can accumulate substantial
amounts of lipids – up to 50% of dry cell weight in certain species
(Chisti, 2007; Sheehan et al., 1998). Many microalgal species can
grow in brackish water or seawater, thereby avoiding demand for
fresh water, a limited resource in many parts of the world
