Pol Col Mana Kleepsatabus, deputy commander of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division, told a press conference that Decha Pradit, 58, was arrested at his house in Uttaradit province on Thursday on information supplied by US homeland security authorities.
The deputy commander said the US officials had earlier reported that they had found pictures of five sexually abused girls aged about eight on a website and his division later discovered they were posted by Mr Decha.
The suspect said 12 years ago he had taught computer and physical education at a primary school in Muang Uttaradit district. As he was attracted to children, he lured several pupils to his physical education camp and sexually abused them.
He took their pictures and shared them with paedophiles through the net. He said he had abused more than 20 children and resigned as a teacher after his sexual abuse was revealed in 2004.
Pol Col Mana said the man had given each abused child 10 baht and told them to keep it secret. Police identified him because of his ring seen in the pictures.
