CONCLUSIONS
The combination of complementary technologies
such as mutation and genetic recombination has
led to remarkable improvements in the productivity
of many primary and secondary metabolites as
well as protein biopharmaceuticals and enzymes.
New genetic approaches for the development of
overproducing strains are continuously emerging.
Among those that have proven to be successful are
metabolic engineering, ribosome engineering,
combinatorial biosynthesis and molecular breeding
techniques.Functional genomics, proteomics and
metabolomics are now being exploited for the
discovery of novel valuable small molecules for
medicine and enzymes for catalysis (Adrio JL and
Demain AL, 2010).
