While much of the organizational knowledge is available as explicit
knowledge, a significant portion of core and enabling knowledge remain
tacit. The willingness to share this tacit knowledge is influenced to a large
extent by the managerial approaches to identify, capture and integrate that
knowledge. These approaches include award and punishment systems and
organizational procedures for assessment of individual performance. The
effective implementation of these approaches can contribute to wider sharing
of tacit knowledge within the organization.
