Fermentation of sugars by S. cerevisiae Fermentation of the main sugars
contained in converge-milled Japanese cedar was performed in 50 mL polyethylene
tubes containing 10 mL of a solution containing 44 g/L glucose, 7.6 g/L mannose and
4.8 g/L xylose in 50 mM acetate buffer, pH 5.0. Yeast cell mass prepared from
exponentially growing S. cerevisiae INVSc1, equivalent to 8, 15 and 29 mg (38
OD600 units) dry cell weight, was added, after which the fermentation tubes were
sealed to exclude exposure to oxygen in the air and incubated in a shaking
incubator at 39C, 100 spm (stroke per minute) for 12e72 h.
