Jazz made considerable inroads in Thailand during the 1920s and 1930s. Its popularity continued and remains today, largely because King Bhumipol Adulyadej is a gifted and accomplished musician. He began composing in 1946 and since then has written about 50 jazz works, some of which have been played internationally.
