quality and control. The weighting system is updated periodically and is done by consulting a wide range of professionals in the UK.
The assessment of a building is done by a specialist assessor licensed by BRE. The information related to the credits in BREEAM is not available to the public and requires the participation of the company and the BRE licensed assessors. This makes BREEAM less user friendly because a preview of the results is not available before the
102 registration of the project. The parameters involved in this method have a national range and refer only to the buildings in the UK. There are now a number of standard
BREEAM schemes covering below mentioned building types:
. BREEAM Courts: covers new, refurbished and operational court buildings.
. BREEAM Industrial: cover new light industrial and warehouse buildings.
. BREEAM Multi-residential: covers new and refurbished students’ and key workers’ accommodation, sheltered housing, hostels and care homes with minimal medical facilities.
. BREEAM Offices: covers new, refurbished and operational office buildings.
. BREEAM Prisons: covers all prison buildings.
. BREEAM Retail: covers new, refurbished and operational retail premises.
. BREEAM Schools: covers new primary and secondary school buildings.
. EcoHomes: covers refurbished homes in UK and all new build homes in UK (except for England).
. Code for Sustainable Homes: covers all new build homes in England.
. Bespoke BREEAM: for any other building which falls outside the above
mentioned building types, or a combination of the above mentioned.
