Hyperaldosteronism is associated with renal injury and the development of chronic kidney disease in patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. By some estimates, up to 85% of patients with primary hyperaldosteronism have evidence of proteinuria.35 Albuminuria occurs to a greater extent in patients with aldosterone-mediated hypertension compared to those with idiopathic hypertension and in normotensive individuals there is an association between proteinuria and aldosterone levels.
