For RNA extraction, the frozen mycelium was ground to a powder in a prechilled mortar with a prechilled pestle. RNA was extracted from the mycelium powder using an RNeasy plant minikit (Qiagen) according to the protocol described by the manufacturer. The quality of the extracted RNA was checked with a 2100 Bioanalyzer apparatus (Agilent Technologies, Inc., Santa Clara, CA).
