The most recently available NIST 1849a infant formula has an
information value for inositol, but no certified range. Once again,
the current GC method yielded slightly higher values (45.1 mg
100 g1), although in general agreement with the assigned value of
40.9 mg 100 g1.
To confirm recovery, milk powder samples laboratory-spiked
with free inositol and taken through all steps of the test with 4 h
digestion recovered 91e96% of analyte (n ¼ 10). Soya-based infant
formulations, digested for 32 h recovered 85e94% of spiked inositol
hexaphosphate (n ¼ 6).
