This study was devoted to investigate the potential of anaerobic
co-digestion of medical cotton industry wastes (MCIWs) for biogas
production. The experimental work demonstrated that the volume
of produced biogas significantly affected by temperature conditions,
inoculum addition, pretreatment of waste materials. During
90 days observation period, maximum biogas production from
pretreated inoculated wastes were 26.916 and 51.622 mL/g VS at
mesophilic and thermophilic temperature conditions, respectively.
Kinetic of bio-digestion process was well described by modified
Gompertz model and the experimental and predicted values of
biogas production were fitted well with correlation coefficient
values >0.96. Findings of this study indicated that the medical
cotton wastes available as lignocellulosic waste materials in cotton
industry are a good option for improving the energy output by codigesting
them with manurewastes while giving a stable and viable
digestion. Future study will consider studying the biogas production
by continuous system and regeneration of alkali solutions used
for CO2 if large amounts are used
