Treatment
Systolic heart failure
The digoxin investigators group study has evaluated the use of digoxin in heart failure in the absence of atrial fibrillation. Their 37-month follow-up study showed a significant 28% reduction in hospital admissions for heart failure but no effect on all-cause mortality. Overall, it seems reasonable to continue to use digoxin to improve the clinical status of patients with heart failure, especially those whose symptoms persist after receiving the drugs that have proven efficacy in reducing mortality.
