Continent
The continents are the seven large masses of land on earth. More than two-thirds of the earth is water—the oceans and seas. Less than one -third is lands. All of this land, including the various islands, is part of the continents. In order of size, they are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.
Europe, Asia, and Africa are connected to each other and North and South America are also connected. Australia and Antarctica are not connected to any other continents. Asia and Europe together form Eurasia, the largest land mass in the world.
Some scientists believe that the seven continents were once a single piece of land. They think that this single piece broke into parts. The parts moved away from each other over millions of years.
