Results showed that 57% of women had an intact perineum, 31% had lacerations, and 15% had episiotomies (not mutually exclusive). Lacerations were significantly associated with nulliparity, ethnicity (non-hispanic white), a larger infant, and the use of hot compresses and lubrication. A non-significant trend was noted with epidural use. There was no significant difference with use of perineal support and massage, or maternal position (34% lithotomy, 31% semi-sitting, 27% alternative). Nulliparous women made up 44% of the sample.
