Chromolaena odorata (L.) King & Robinson continues to spread through southeast Asia into the south Pacific, and into central and eastern Africa from the infestations in western and southern Africa. It is regarded as a very serious threat to agriculture and the environment in most of these countries. The climate-matching program CLIMEX was used with data from the known distribution of the weed in Asia and the Neotropics to predict areas suitable for its growth in Africa, Australia and Oceania. Results indicate that much of tropical Africa, the eastern coast of Australia and most Pacific islands are susceptible to invasion.
