What are Human Rights? It is a simple question, but it is hard to answer. Most people just know that Human Rights exist, but do not know what they are exactly. The term Human rights is made up of 2 words which are human and rights. Human is a member of the Homo sapiens species, and rights are things to which you are entitled or allowed (OneEurope,2015). Therefore, Human Rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world since birth. Human Rights have occurred and evolved for a long period. Human Rights were created in 539 B.C when Cyrus the Great conquered Babylon (Human Rights, n.d). After this event, he freed the slaves and let them choose their own religions. Additionally, he created racial equality and documented all his words in clay cylinder called the Cyrus Cylinder. After that Human Rights were brought to light again when WWII erupted in 1939 and ended in 1945 millions of people were dead and homeless (Human Rights, n.d). In 1941, Franklin D Roosevelt gave a speech about 4 Freedoms, which consist of Freedom from Fear, Freedom from want, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship. Then, in 1948, The UN succeeded to draw world’s attention and formed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which consist of 30 articles.
