The fact that basketball players demonstrated greater FPPA than football players in the unilateral landing task may reflect the higher injury rate in this sport. Athletes from both sports exhibited greater FPPA during unilateral landing tasks and this should be taken into account when designing interventions for these athletes. Performance during unilateral landing tasks should be prospectively evaluated as an injury risk prediction tool as it may be more sensitive than bilateral landing tasks previously suggested. Injury prevention programs should include unilateral jumping, landing and decelerating techniques and consider the mechanisms of injury in each sport.
