The structure of the logistic chain is mainly
determined by the size of the product assortment,
the value density of the products (i.e. value per
volume unit) and the added value of the products
to the customers. The impact of the product
value density and the assortment size on the
organization of a logistic chain is illustrated in
Fig. 2. For each combination of these factors the
value-range matrix indicates elements in the or-
