Bangkok's Concrete Buildings and Shrinking Green Spaces - Another main problem in Bangkok is the massive number of concrete buildings. With little or no zoning laws, Thais can shove up any concrete building they like and they do. On my small soi alone, in the last year and a half four enormous apartment buildings have gone up and one restaurant. To build these buildings, the developers chopped down hundreds of trees and acres of greenery, contributing to the city's pollution problems.
With so many concrete buildings going up, this also increases Bangkok's incredible heat. Concrete holds heat so, even at night, Bangkok never cools down much as the concrete buildings retain the heat. If Thais must keep building these concrete monstrosities, the least they can do is to put up green spaces on the roof, on balconies or on the ground, to lessen the damage on the environment and heat index.
Bangkok, Thailand is a wonderful city but, if it cannot get these three main problems under control it's only going to become yet another Asian city that's barely liveable, and that would be a shame.
