Minwoo: The traditional Korean family consisted of generations of extended family living together. This meant that grandparents, parents, and children all lived together. So when a child was born in the family, parents as well as grandparents took part in raising the baby. This type of family formation started to change after the 1960s as industrialization and urbanization took place. In other words, nuclear families became the norm with only parents and unmarried children living together.
