The first of the three care patterns that emerged within this theme was that Hispanic and underserved Caucasian children and families use generic care to stay healthy and treat illness. While the use of generic and folk care was universal across both cultural groups, the types of remedies used were diverse. Both groups used teas and herbs to treat illness, learned folk remedies from their mothers and/or grandmothers, and desired to pass these therapies on to their own children.
