Needs of the target group
Cultural Needs:
The library must be open to everybody and therefore must
respect different cultural needs. Cultural needs have their roots
in both oral and visual traditions, in the changing of society and
social status, in cultural diversity and in one’s own personal
vision for the future.
Developmental Needs:
Services for young adults should be designed in cooperation
with representatives of the target group. Young adults should be
actively involved in planning, implementing and evaluating
resources, services, and programs. They should be treated with
respect, acceptance, and a willingness by the library to validate
their choices, even if different to those that the library
traditionally offers.
Libraries that structure their programs and services within the
context of research-based youth development models can
provide opportunities for young adults to achieve a successful
transition from adolescence to adulthood.
