4.3 Choosing ecological indicators for evaluating the macrofauna
succession changes in Sonneratia apetala artificial
mangrove wetlands
Does it help to choose specific ecological indicators to
evaluate the ecological restoration of a sub-system of macrofauna
in artificial mangrove wetlands? Is it helpful to know the
changes in biomass, network structure, and information content
during the community succession process? The integrated
application of different ecological indicators is better than using
a single indicator. In theory, all ecological indicators should
statistically analyze species composition and abundance in a
biological community, so that the status of an ecological system
can be judged. However, many practically developed methods
for describing the characteristics of an ecological system are not
widely applicable to general ecological systems because each
system is different. It is not advisable to use a single ecological
indicator in order to evaluate a complex process like system
restoration. The correct approach should be to apply various
ecological indicators to systematically consider a number of
characteristics of the community under study.
