The performance
of sexuality and gender is, for the most part, a circumscribed set of on-going practices,
and it is hard to imagine it being otherwise. What is of concern, then, is that Ruth’s
example underlines the continued relevance of addressing issues about how LGBT
sexualities and genders are particularly susceptible to the influence of heteronormative
work practices and values, even in lesbian-friendly work contexts. However, work
friends have a supportive and empowering role to play here.
