Mawhinney,Bostow, Laws, Blumenfeld, and Hopkins (1971) documented this pointing controlled circumstances, with tests given daily, weekly, or every three weeks. Studying was most copious and evenly spaced with daily testing. With less frequent testing, study behavior occurred only before the tests (see also Michael, 1991). In addition, in their survey of students behaviors described previously, Kornell and Bjork (2007) found that 59% of students, when choosing what to study, chose topics that were due soon or already overdue. More frequent testing across the semester would encourage students to study more and would space their studying over several weeks.
