Korean familism includes the Confucian patriarchal tradition in which the relationship between the father and son is important. This family relationship is a very important factor in social relationships, and in the culture of the society as a whole. due to this heritage -oriented viewpoint, Korean society does not readily open up to different, outer groups. It is not normal to adopt the child of another family because of this kind of exclusionary mindset. For example, if a family wishes to adopt a child because they do not have any children of their own, they will often choose to adopt a child of their siblings or other relative.
