manufacturer’s protocol with minor modifications (Farmos Diag- nostica, Oulunsalo, Finland) [16]. The Coat-A-Count procedure is a solid-phase RIA, based on a testosterone-specific antibody immo- bilized to the wall of a polypropylene tube. 125I-labeled testosterone competes with testosterone in the experimental sample for anti- body sites for a fixed time. The tube is then decanted, to separate bound from free testosterone, and counted in a gamma counter (Cobra; Hewlett Packard, Palo Alto, Califonia, USA). The amount of testosterone present in the experimental sample was determined from a calibration curve. All samples were run in triplicate, and two sets of testosterone standard were included in each assay.
