The northeast is the biggest region of Thailand which seems to suffer from a number of environmental problems that arise from imbalances-in the hot season the region suffers drought, while in the rainy season he problem is flooding. In recent years, the northeast has rapidly dried up with the inset of summer. This year residents say the region is facing one of its worst droughts over, which is threatening agriculture as well as the daily livelihoods of the people. Added to this, the expansion of many communities has caused forest encroachment and what few green areas remain are fast disappearing.
